Musical Excerpts

Live performance
Official recording
Callas worked with conductors that were already known as the greatest of their time, think of Serafin, De Sabata, Giulini, Votto, Rescigno, Prêtre… but also with young conductors that were going to be amongst the greatest of the twentieth century: Herbert von Karajan, with whom she recorded Il trovatore as previously said, and Leonard Bernstein.
This is one of the most beautiful testimonies, all origins considered, that Callas left us: the breath and the high notes, the purest, the most magnificent, the most beautiful trill in the world, a captivating tone, an emotion beyond all description – perfection. The public, essential for the feeling quality of a dal vivo recording, is here stricken with awe: as hard to please as it is grateful.
